Meeting Summaries and Minutes
December 1, 2007 Meeting Minutes
The Conflict Resloution Society met on December 1st in Room 274 at El Centro Community College. The meeting called to order by the President, Marc Lilly at 10:20.
Because the Dallas Christmas Parade was held that day, we gave members a little more time to find parking. We had five members and our sponsor in attendance.
The minutes were read and approved.
Old business discussed:
David got us approved to place a box for our Canned Food Drive in the lobby of El Centro. Mark will check with SPAR (Sara Oglesby) to find out the location we can place it. Also we will ask the Art Department to help us with a sign. The food collected will go to the North Texas Food Bank.
Karen will speak with her contact at Pilgrim’s Pride concerning donating meat products to the North Texas Food Bank on behalf of CRS.
We had a very limited number of attendance, but we voted that each member would give $10.00 minimum towards the Adopt-A-Family project, but you may give as much as you are led to give. At $10.00 minimum, that would give us about $350.00. We will coordinate with Bridgette about the family, date and time that this will all take place so that we can attend if we can.
Our next meeting will be held on January 12th, 2008 at 10:00 in Room 274.
New business discussed at the meeting will be in WIKI.dot site by the end of this week for informal discussion before the next meeting and formal discussion of these topics.
September 10, 2007 Meeting Summary
The group discussed the options for what to do during the holiday season as a group and how to make the greatest impact possible. There were some excellent suggestions from the group including serving at a soup kitchen, toys-for-tots, angel tree, helping the salvation, adopting a family, canned food drive, and others.
After a fairly extensive discussion, the group voted on the following activities:
1. Canned food drive.. we're going to set up a box wherever SPAR will us and collect canned food donations to be donated to a determined charity. Several charities were discussed, but I think we'll meet on it one more time before making a final decision on the recipient of the canned goods. Be researching between now and the 1st to bring suggestions to the meeting on whom you feel will benefit the most from the canned goods!
2. Adopt a family in need... it was decided that we should adopt a family in need. After great discussion, it was determined that the family will come from the courts as provided by Bridgette and that the family will be that of grandparents that are tasked with raising their young grand-children where the children's parent(s) are not in the picture for whatever reason. Ways to help included provided food for their holiday meal as well as providing gifts for the family members. Further discussion on the types of gifts and for whom to purchase the gifts and by whom the gifts will be purchased will be finalized at the next meeting and the discussion will continue until then in the forums that can be found at https://crs.wikidot.com/forum/start. If you don't have access to them, then email me or call me and I'll get you set up.
3. Volunteering at a soup kitchen... several members expressed interest in volunteering to feed the homeless on the Saturday before Thanksgiving (this coming Saturday!). Those that are interested will be communicating with each other. If you're interested, please email Chutanyjia Ware at press4ward2007@yahoo.com.
Wiki Site
On mention of the forum, several people have expressed interest in becoming involved in the CRS wiki site, but I haven't had anyone register. I understand that while the process of using the site's forums is incredibly easy, the actual registration process is a little more difficult. As such, if you're interested in using the features that are available to you on the site, please feel free to email me and I will help you get set up.
The next CRS meeting
Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10am to 12pm. Please take special note of the new time!
